A talk given in Republican Hall on the Aztec calendar stone, excavated in Mexico City in 1790. Born in Berlin in 1828, Valentini sailed to Costa Rica in 1854 and founded the seaport of Puerto Limon. He traveled extensively throughout Latin America before moving to New York City in 1871, where he lived and wrote until his death in 1899.
