Complete set of six Leibig trade cards depicting exotic fruits. 4 x 2 3/4 inches. In beautiful chromolithograph. 1890's. In French. (Item ID: 2759)

The Liebig Company was a large international company, known mainly for its meat extracts. For almost 100 years they issued cards in complete sets, usually in sets of six. The customer generally acquired the sets through cutting coupons from the product label and exchanging the coupons for the sets. "For many, the Leibig card was to acquire the status of universal mentor, offering a stream of useful and entertaining information. Design and production standards were consistently high, and many sets were collected for their pictorial beauty alone. Printed in huge quantities, and requiring up to twelve printings for each individual image, the cards are excellent examples of commercial chromolithography." Rickards "Encyclopedia of Ephemera."
