A group of 100 fragments of mostly English bank notes from the early nineteenth century. Each is exquisitely engraved on thin paper. Most measure 4 x 1 inches, and have been cut from complete notes. (Item ID: 2605)

"In Britain, bank notes emerged in the late 17th century...a proliferation of banks in the early 19th century brought a mass of different bank notes. By 1810 Britain had well over 700 'country banks', each issuing its own locally engraved notes." - Encyclopedia of Ephemera.
These fragments offer an excellent array of ornate typefaces and printed designs.
