Epinal: Pellerin & Cie., c. 1895. An uncut sheet of heavy paper featuring an elaborate " Swiss Chalet" to cut out and assemble. (11 3/4 x 15 1/2 inches). (Item ID: 2526)

The Pellerin family of Epinal, France began making popular prints called "images d"Epinal" in the mid eighteenth century and the family business continues to this day. By the later half of the nineteenth century, a great deal of the business was directed toward the printing of inexpensive paper toys for children including: toy theatres, jumping jacks, and construction models of many kinds. Because of the extreme fragility of the paper toys, few have survived. When they have, it is usually in this uncut state.
